Find Information (1.3)
I can find limited or superficial information through academic research and/or user-focused/empathetic methods.

Make Observations (1.1)
Project 1: Discover
Discovering Ideas
(9/7/2017)
I believe I am foundational in this criterion because I only notice and record basic information within a narrow scope to generate a few ideas for inquiry. My evidence is in Discovering Ideas (9/7/2017), where I listed out several ideas and rated them in validity, significance, and interest. The methods were largely done in class, and I only listed a few more at the bottom. While I have no specific evidence for it, my group chose to tackle procrastination simply because of its relevance, so we didn't put much effort in perception to find other issues.
Pose Questions (1.2)
Project 1: Discover
Interview Round 1
(9/11/2017)
Reflection
(9/14/2017)
I believe I am foundational in this criterion because while I generated many questions for understanding the issue, I struggled with achieving depth. My evidence is in Interview Round 1 (9/11/2017), where I listed out the questions we utilized in our interview sessions and recorded various answers. The listed questions were not different from the initially-prepared questions. I believe we generated many questions, but the answers appear limited and often ended up in a yes or no. I found it difficult to gather insight from the first interview session. The same reasoning was explained in Reflection (9/14/2017).
Find Information (1.3)
Project 1: Define
Interview Round 1
(9/11/2017)
Interview Round 2
(9/14/2017)
Reflection
(9/14/2017)
I believe I am foundational in this criterion because I find limited or superficial information through academic research and/or user-focused/empathetic methods. My evidences are in both interview sessions, where some interview questions asked about specific techniques and apps for the topic, such as the "Pomodoro technique" and the "Self Control App," which indicates prior research. While this proves that we gathered various information, it also meant that we were too focused on finding solutions. As indicated in the interviews, we should have focused on the clients and understanding the problems rather than asking for solutions. In Reflection (9/14/2017), I indicated that I did not find overly intriguing information or insight, which speaks for the overall success of finding information through empathetic methods.

2. Define
How do I interpret information and define problems or challenges?
Define Evaluative Criteria (2.1)

I can define sound criteria for determining if a problem is appropriate as a project focus and, after ideating, if a solution could solve the problem.

Consider Constraints (2.2)

I can define constraints based on user needs and/or resources to show a deep understanding of my design space.

Define Problem (2.3)

I can evaluate complex information to produce a nuanced and significant problem statement.

Define Evaluative Criteria (2.1)

I can define clear criteria for determining if a problem is appropriate as a project focus and, after ideating, if a solution could solve the problem.

Consider Constraints (2.2)

I can define constraints based on user needs and/or resources.

Define Problem (2.3)

I can evaluate information to produce a clear and significant problem statement.

Define Evaluative Criteria (2.1)
I can define some criteria for determining if a problem is appropriate as a project focus and, after ideating, if a solution could solve the problem. Some aspects are overlooked.

Consider Constraints (2.2)
I can identify some constraints based on user needs and/or resources.

Define Problem (2.3)

I can evaluate information to produce a problem statement that lacks clarity and/or significance.

Define Eval. Criteria (2.1)
Project 1: Define
Reflection
(9/18/2017)
User Empathy Map
(9/18/2017)
Defining Factors
Success Requirements
Criteria
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I define some criteria for determining the appropriateness of the problem as a project focus and evaluate the ideated solution. My evidences are in the User Empathy Map (9/18/2017) and the subsequent Defining Factors, Success Requirements, and Criteria. The User Empathy Map utilized information from our interviews to verify the issue's accuracy and relevance. We pinpointed the user, needs, and insights and categorized the information to create our problem statement. The resulting criteria defined what the project should attempt to solve, and so we based the problem statement around both our research and empathetic methods. According to the Reflection (9/18/2017), we also went over various versions of the problem statement before arriving at a final one. While it is true that I did not consider many alternative project ideas, I believe that the verification and research we done for this one determined that it was appropriate as a project.
Consider Constraints (2.2)
Project 1: Define
Reflection
(9/18/2017)
User Empathy Map
(9/18/2017)
Defining Factors
Success Requirements
Criteria
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I define constraints based on  user needs and/or resources. My evidences are the User Empathy Map (9/18/2017), Defining Factors, Success Requirements, and Criteria. The Defining Factors take the most important points of the User Empathy Map to ensure the proper direction of the problem statement. The Success Requirements determine the necessary outcome of the project for it to succeed, and the Criteria considers users constraints.
Define a Problem (2.3)
Project 1: Define
User Empathy Map
(9/18/2017)
Defining Factors
Success Requirements
Criteria
Reflection
(9/18/2017)
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I evaluate information to produce a clear and significant problem statement. My evidences are the User Empathy Map (9/18/2017), Defining Factors, Success Requirements, Criteria, and Reflection (9/18/2017). We generated the User Empathy Map based on information from the Discover process. The Defining Factors take the most important aspects of the map to shape the problem statement. We generated the criteria for success in Success Requirements and limits on ideation in Criteria. The Reflection (9/18/2017) indicates that we went over many versions of the problem statement.

Project 1 Ideate Assessment (October 15th, 2017)

Foundational Competency
3. Ideate
How do I generate, refine, and evaluate ideas?
Generate Ideas (3.1)
I can generate a large number of both wild and realistic ideas.

Refine Ideas (3.2)
I can organize, classify, and prioritize ideas, drawing complex connections between them, to determine several different directions or trends.

Develop a Plan of Action (3.3)
I can create an initial plan for further exploration that articulates a sophisticated methodology (e.g., experimental design, advanced research methods).
Generate Ideas (3.1)
I can generate a large number of mostly conventional ideas.

Refine Ideas (3.2)
I can organize, classify, and prioritize ideas to determine possible directions or trends.

Develop a Plan of Action (3.3)
I can create an initial plan or method for further exploration.

Generate Ideas (3.1)
I can generate some ideas, but they may be insufficient in volume or originality.

Refine Ideas (3.2)
I can classify ideas, but may struggle to determine possible directions or trends.

Develop a Plan of Action (3.3)
I can create a plan or method for further exploration, but it may be narrow, inflexible, or lack a clear vision of the end product.

Generate Ideas (3.1)
Project 1: Ideate
Brainstorming Ideas
(10/5/2017)
Reflection
(10/12/2017)
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I generate a large number of mostly conventional ideas. My evidence is Brainstorming Ideas (10/5/2017), where I listed what I believe to be an ample amount of ideas with no single idea that is impossible or not suggested before. To prove that the ideas were largely "conventional," the Reflection (10/12/2017) indicated that my ideas were based on past experiences, interviews, and advice.
Refine Ideas (3.2)
Project 1: Ideate
Brainstormed Categories
Reflection
(10/12/2017)
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I organize, classify, and prioritize ideas to determine possible directions or trends. My evidence is Brainstormed Categories, which categorizes the similar brainstormed ideas into one group. In the Reflection (10/12/2017), I realized that we could use combinations of categories to create a comprehensive solution.
Develop a Plan of Action (3.3)
Project 1: Ideate
PROTOTYPE 1
I believe that I am foundational in this criterion because I create a narrow, inflexible, or unclear plan or method for further exploration. My evidence is PROTOTYPE 1, where I outlined a vague list of descriptions and procedures for the first prototype. We did not fully develop the plan of action to consider how to analyze the data and we failed to create a proper schedule for the first prototype, which made its execution loose.

Project 1: Group Collaboration
List of Group Norms
(10/16/2017)
Finalized Group Norms
Reflection
(10/27/2017)
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I work with my group to establish expectations and hold myself and others accountable to them. My evidences are the List of Group Norms (10/16/2017), Finalized Group Norms, and Reflection (10/27/2017). As a group, we generated a set of rules in the group norms and evaluated them to create a finalized version. In the Reflection (10/27/2017), I indicated that no member of the group violated the rules and that the limited number of group members helped make the process easier to moderate.
Task Management (7.2)
Project 1: Group Collaboration
Assigning Jobs
(10/19/2017)
Team Calendar
(10/19/2017)
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I can work with my team to create a task list with some division of labor; assign roles; set a rough schedule and track progress. My evidences are Assigning Jobs
(10/19/2017) and Team Calendar (10/19/2017). The evidences indicate that we split up tasks and created a calendar for the entire process.
Work as a Whole Team (7.3)
Project 1: Group Collaboration
List of Group Norms
(10/16/2017)
Finalized Group Norms
Reflection
(10/27/2017)

Brainstorming Ideas
(10/5/2017)
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I can develop ideas and create products with involvement of all team members, bringing tasks done separately to the team for critique and revision. My evidences are List of Group Norms (10/16/2017), Finalized Group Norms, Reflection (10/27/2017), and Brainstorming Ideas (10/5/2017). In the List of Group Norms, Finalized Group Norms, and Brainstorming Ideas, each member did individual brainstorming before collectively evaluating all ideas to create a finalized product. The Reflection (10/27/2017) indicates that each member were more adept at different brainstorming tasks.
Encourage Diversity (7.4)
Project 1: Group Collaboration
Reflection
(10/27/2017)
I believe that I am foundational in this criterion because I build on others' ideas and open up to new and diverse perspectives. My evidence is the Reflection (10/27/2017), where I indicated in Evaluation that there were not enough opportunities to express this field. Both members were not oppressive, but none of us introduced diverse ideas as alternatives to what we already have. We may be too complacent.
Critical Reflection (7.5)
Project 1: Ideate
PROTOTYPE 1
PROTOTYPE 2
I believe that I am proficient in this criterion because I can challenge my own or the group’s assertions and beliefs, and willingly express unconventional and possibly unpopular views. My evidence is PROTOTYPE 1 and PROTOTYPE 2, where I acknowledged the shortcomings of PROTOTYPE 1 despite the original vision to "simplify" PROTOTYPE 2, which both members agreed was more conventional.

Project Ideas
Reflection
(11/30/2017)
I believe I am exemplary in this criterion because I utilized a broad range of approaches for exploration and also documented my reflection and thoughts on my research. My evidences are in Personal Issues, Interviews, Project Ideas, and Reflection. In all evidences, I indicated that I utilized observations, self-reflections, online research, and direct interviews. In my reflection, I kept a log that gave further insight on my research process.

Project 2: Discover
Group Meeting (11/23/2017)
Group Meeting
(11/27/2017)
Generating Interview Questions
(11/30/2017)

I believe I am proficient in this criterion because I generated a considerable amount of open-ended questions for each project idea the group presented. My evidences are in both Group Meetings and Generating Interview Questions. In Group Meeting (11/23/2017), the team was able to generate questions for all potential project ideas that target aspects such as potential users, viability, and significance. I do not have evidence for this, but I generated most of the questions. In Group Meeting (11/27/2017), even further questions were asked about a specified topic and some areas of disagreement also indicate my suspicions of the topic. In Interview Questions, I generated some basic questions because we lack a specific user at that point, but I made them general and insightful enough without being confrontational.
Find Information (1.3)
Project 2: Discover
Initial Exploratory Research
(11/16/2017)
Project Ideas
Focused Research
(11/30/2017)
I believe I am exemplary in this criterion because I found relevant and credible information through academic research and through empathetic methods. My evidences are in Project Ideas, Focused Research, and Reflection. In Project Ideas, I utilized many methods including basic academic research to confirm the existence of such issues. I kept notes on my process in Reflection. In Focused Research, I shifted to using purely academic, peer-reviewed sources related to the final topic to gain increased understanding and insight of the deeper, complex issues and terms. I also kept notes for each source I visited.
